Robert Peter Tristram Coffin was an American poet and profesor who was born in Brunswick,Maine, USA on March 18 1892. Coffin wrote poems based on New England and seafaring life. He was a professor at Wells College and Bowdein College.He was awarded the Pulitzer prize for poetry in 1936 for 'Strange Holiness'.Robert began writing as a young boy and was inspired by his father's love for music, song and stories.In his poems he often celebrated the life of his father whom he recognised as his personal hero and he also had a passion for writing romantic prose. In the year 1916, Coffin graduated from Princeton and went to Oxford University to pursue poetry with a Rhodes Scholarship. He was also a visual artist who illustrated many of his books as he put his skills to the test. Robert Coffin died in 1955 at the age of 62.
